Although Maslow's theory is well-known his work is weak in quantitative and, in particular, qualitative terms. By contrast Herzberg and others (Porter/Lawler, quality of working life, a more procedural viewpoint to motivation) consist of in-depth empirical analysis and can be verified in a clear and repeatable experimental setup.
